This tutorial explains how to use tabs of any kind of metal model to mount it on our bases without need to use pinning technique.

Image

1.After the model is ready to be put on the base, measure with a drill bit how much of the tab should be made into pins. Most of the time - the larger the better. Personally I prefer to paint the base first before mounting the model.

2.Then with pliers cut the tab to the measured size of the pins.

3.After that paint the ends of the new made “pins” with some paint e.g. black, and place the model on the base where you want it to be while the paint is still wet to mark places where I should drill.

4.Then drill holes in marked places. Drill holes as deep as the length of the pins.

5.Add a drop of superglue into every hole and put the model in the holes.

Many thanks for this - I've been cutting slots for them, because I make custom display bases for small display dioramas (sometimes out of Das, mostly out of MDF). I did drill into Cohen and insert pins but your way looks much simpler and easier.

The other thing I do differently is to use Plasticine in the slots to hold the miniatures rather than glue. That way I can take the miniatures out of one diorama and put them in another fairly easily.

Mind you, at the rate you are producing new Discworld miniatures, I haven't had time to take any apart yet - there's always another new miniature to get and paint! :D
